Transformation Story

Benjamin Augustin

From Overextended High-Performer → Strategic Principal Leader

Ben was never underperforming.

He was over-performing.

Before the program, he was:

  • Taking on too many hats

  • Carrying invisible responsibilities

  • Solving problems across teams

  • Acting as informal leader

But there was a ceiling.

Not because he lacked skill.
Because he lacked clarity.

He was doing leadership work,
without fully owning leadership identity.

The Before: Competent, But Fragmented

At the time, Ben worked in consultancy.

That meant:

  • Multiple clients

  • Multiple responsibilities

  • Multiple contexts

  • Little structural clarity

He was operating at principal-level thinking…

But internally?

He still questioned:

  • Am I ready?

  • Am I good enough?

  • Am I seen?

  • Am I understood?

And one dragon in particular lived loudly inside him:

The Fear of Miscommunication.

The Dragon: “They Don’t Understand Me.”

Ben described it beautifully.

He would over-communicate.
Over-explain.
Rephrase.
Repeat.

Because somewhere deep down was the fear:

“If they don’t understand me, I will lose influence.”

That dragon didn’t make him weak.

It made him exhausting himself.

The Shift: From Fear to Strategy

The program didn’t remove that dragon.

It reframed it.

Instead of:
“I must over-explain because I’m insecure.”

It became:
“I am excellent at making complex things understandable.”

Instead of:
“I’m afraid I’m not clear.”

It became:
“I can choose when clarity requires depth.”

That shift alone changed his trajectory.

Because now his communication style became strategic.

With inner circle:

  • Leaner

  • Trust-based

  • Efficient

With stakeholders:

  • More structured

  • Context-rich

  • Intentionally detailed

Same person.
Different application.

Delegation, The Real Level Up

One of the biggest tangible changes?

Delegation.

Before:
Ben carried context.
Ben solved problems.
Ben owned everything.

After:
He built systems.
He empowered team leads.
He focused on 6–12 month direction.

He stopped being the doer.

He became the enabler.

And that’s when principal leadership truly begins.

The Outcome

Since completing the program:

  • He gained recognition for invisible leadership work

  • He stepped into a new principal role

  • He secured a significant salary increase

  • He moved into an industry aligned with his passions (theatre)

But the biggest shift wasn’t the job.

It was the confidence to step into it.

Five years ago, he wouldn’t have applied.

Today, he leads large initiatives across teams.

The Ripple Effect

When asked what ripple it would create in the world, he said:

Trust.
Better communication.
Less unnecessary conflict.

That is not small.

That is culture-shaping.

Dragon Insight 🐉

Your dragon isn’t the thing that blocks you.

It’s the thing that protects you
until you learn to ride it.

Ben didn’t slay the dragon of over-communication.

He turned it into clarity.

And clarity, at scale,
is leadership.

Before The Leadership Landing ...

Ben juggled responsibilities but lacked clarity and confidence in his leadership voice.

After The Leadership Landing ...

He communicates with calm authority. He delegates effectively. He aligns teams toward long-term vision.
