Transformation Story

Nynke van Houten

From Pleasing Everyone → Choosing Herself

When Nynke joined the program, she didn’t join to “find herself.”

She joined to change jobs.

That was the plan.

She felt stuck professionally.
She wanted a new direction.
A new challenge.

What she didn’t expect?

The real transformation would happen inside.

The Hidden Pattern: Going Around the Bush

Nynke had learned something very young.

Don’t ask directly.
Don’t be too much.
Don’t upset anyone.
Find a way around.

She was skilled at navigating.
Skilled at smoothing.
Skilled at adapting.

But not skilled at saying:

“This is what I want.”

She didn’t realize how deeply that pattern shaped her.

Until one session.

The Twist Moment

She can’t even remember exactly which exercise it was.

But she remembers the feeling.

Something clicked.
Something flipped.

“It was like my head twisted and everything fell into place.”

Suddenly, she felt calm.
Not because life changed.

But because she saw herself differently.

She realized:

I don’t have to go around the bush.

I can say what I need.

The Dragon: Fear of Being “Too Much”

Underneath the politeness was fear.

Fear of rejection.
Fear of being selfish.
Fear of conflict.

So she negotiated her needs indirectly.

But indirect communication is exhausting.

And it keeps you small.

Through the program, she began unlearning that conditioning.

And this was not just intellectual.

It was embodied.

The Painting on the Wall

There was an exercise where we painted our fears.

Her fear painting still hangs in her hallway.

Every day she sees it.

And now she says:

“I don’t feel that anymore.”

Not because fear disappeared.

But because she faced it.

The Shift: Direct Communication

Instead of hinting…

Instead of circling…

Instead of hoping others would guess…

She started saying:

“This is what I want.”
“This is what I need.”

And something surprising happened.

People didn’t reject her.

They respected her.

Tangible Results

  • She changed roles.

  • She made a career step.

  • She shifted dynamics in her personal life.

  • She feels less fear.

  • She feels more grounded.

But the biggest result?

Energy.

When you are no longer performing a version of yourself…

You have energy left.

The Rediscovered Child

There was always a joyful, enthusiastic child inside her.

Curious.
Excited.
Bright.

But that child had been toned down to fit in.

The program didn’t “create” confidence.

It reintroduced her to who she already was.

If Her Inner Dragon Could Speak

It would say:

“You are finally being true to yourself.”

And it would applaud.

Because the dragon wasn’t there to destroy her.

It was protecting a younger version of her.

Now she protects herself.

Leadership Lesson

Leadership isn’t about dominating a room.

It’s about owning your space in it.

It’s about saying what you want, kindly, clearly, courageously.

When you choose yourself,
You don’t lose connection.

You deepen it.

Before The Leadership Landing ...

Nynke felt stuck professionally and personally. She struggled to express her needs directly and often went “around the bush.”

After The Leadership Landing ...

She says what she wants. She takes career steps aligned with her values. She honors her enthusiastic self without apology.
